The U.S. Embassy celebrated the U.S.’s Independence Day today.  As the Ambassador remarked, “I can’t tell you what an honor it is to have the Prime Minister here with so many members of his cabinet.  You know, today of course, marks the 238th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence,  But it’s been a very important week for Georgia too.  In a way, the signing of the EU Association Agreement is a declaration of independence again by Georgia, reaffirming its right to choose whatever economic and security partnerships it wants to in the region.  And that’s something that  the United States is going to continue to support strongly as we work in support of Georgia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.  We also use this occasion to say goodbye to our Deputy Chief of Mission Bridget Brink, who is completing her three-year assignment here, who’s done a wonderful job for U.S. Georgia relations and leaves Georgia as yet another of that large group of people known as the American friends of Georgia. So thank you all for your support.”
