Interview with Isabelle Eder

By Nana Janashia

Which event changed your life?

- My stay in Belgium. I found some friends for life there.

Which character traits of yours do you not like?

- I can be perfectionist.

Which event in your life could you not possibly imagine beforehand?

Spontaneous backpacking in Portugal.

What do you miss most in life?

My grandfather, who passed away last year.

What does critique mean to you?

A possibility for personal improvement and, if done in a constructive manner, a necessity for human relationships.

What do you regret?

Regret is associated with things you have done, and shouldn’t have or with things you haven’t done. Naturally, I made mistakes in life so far. But according to my philosophy of life, mistakes are something to be learnt from. Therefore, I am grateful for any mistake I ever made, though there are certainly some, I do not wish to experience again.

Do you believe in fate and if yes, what does it mean to you?

Yes. I do believe some meetings and actions are predestined to the individual. This is probably what you would call fate. What an individual person makes of it, is wholly in that person’s hand. This defines free will.

What is a necessary ingredient for success, in your opinion?

Passion. One does well, what one does passionately. Moreover, quite a bit of chance perhaps …and a few other things :)

What does "time" mean to you?

A frame in which our living and learning takes place.

What was the most important meeting in your life so far?

Meeting my boyfriend and close friends. I feel very rewarded by life.

What is more important to you in your profession: theory or practice?

These are two sides of the same coin to me.

What is your alma mater?

The University of Passau.

Did you ever write any poetry? If so, concerning what?

Haha yes, indeed! Once I got carried away to write a love poem. It was awful!

What kind of a person do you prefer to deal with? Creative or pragmatic?

I find both kinds in my inner circle. I suppose, it’s a matter of mixture.

If you hadn’t been born in Germany, whereelse would you prefer?

Maybe in Costa Rica. The landscape is beautiful and I like Spanish a lot.

What should Georgia improve, in your opinion?

I fell in love with this country. I would hope for far more foreigners to experience the legendary Georgian hospitality and the beautiful landscape. In that respect Georgia could advertise itself a little bit more abroad.

What Would you improve in Germany?

- For children to have the same educational opportunities, independent of their background. In Germany there is quite some room for improvement concerning this topic.

After how many days of traveling do you become homesick?

Indeed, on my birthday, which happened to be after one month of traveling. I usually celebrate this day with my family and friends. However my boyfriend prepared a charming surprise.

If you could choose a different alma mater, which one will it be?

- Ratisbon. I really like the city a lot. Especially the old town.

What does "family" mean to you?

Home.

Which question did you expect to be asked?

Probably, what I like most about Georgia.
