BATUMI, Georgia – The U.S. 6th Fleet command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) arrived in Batumi, Georgia, for a scheduled port visit, Oct. 14.
Mount Whitney’s presence in Georgia reaffirms to partner countries that the U.S. Navy shares a commitment to the common goal of promoting security and stability within the region, while enhancing the interoperability between partner countries. This port visit marks the second time in the past two years that the flagship has visited Batumi.

While in Georgia, Mount Whitney is scheduled to participate in a joint training exercise with Georgian counterparts. The focus of this exercise will include damage control, medical first aid, tactical signaling and force protection training onboard the ship.
The joint interaction between Mount Whitney and Georgia will further the overall mission of maintaining regional partnerships and advancing the mutual capabilities and goals between the two countries.
The sailors of Mount Whitney will participate in community relations events, sport competitions, an American Corners open discussion, and a traditional Georgian dinner, hosted by the Georgian Coast Guard.
The U.S. Naval Forces Europe (NAVEUR) band is also scheduled to hold a public concert at Batumi Piazza on Oct 15. The “Allied Forces Jazz Diplomats” will perform a mix of American big band classics and jazz vocal arrangements for the public.
Mount Whitney, forward deployed to Gaeta, Italy, operates with a combined crew of U.S. Navy Sailors and Military Sealift Command civil service mariners. The civil service mariners perform navigation, deck, engineering and supply service operations, while military personnel support communications, weapons systems and security.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
